Malaka first entered the field of video in 1998. His videos and short films have been shown at international film festivals and exhibitions in Israel, Japan, Netherlands, United States of America, Germany, India, Pakistan, Italy, Bulgaria, Cuba, Greece, Indonesia, South Korea and Austria and have won a few awards. Following his graduation from the University of Colombo in 2005, he won a scholarship to study film, video and new media at Akademie Schloss Solitude, Germany. In 2009, he was an Asia-Pacific Fellow at the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Seoul. Malaka recently completed his first full-length feature film, named ‘The Undecided’. In his work, he has always tried to blend a variety of styles to suit his purpose and vision. He perceives the world through a critical exploration of socio-psychological milieu.
