Ruwangi Amarasinghe, 26, is an Artist, Muralist and Illustrator living and working in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Though she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design at the Academy of Design in Colombo, her work has since been mainly focused on illustration and painting, as it allows more artistic freedom. She inherited and honed her drawing and painting skills from her diversely artistic family since childhood. Her work can be seen around the country, at Café Kumbuk, Coi, TNL, and Fluke & Luna in Colombo, Beatroot café in Weligama and Heritage Café in Galle. MAS commissioned her largest work, size 10m. She is known for using vibrant colours and unique style in her murals. She works with Sri Lanka’s first electronic music label, Jambutek Recordings, illustrating covers for all their releases. Ruwangi also works for Afield, the UK based menswear brand, making prints and patterns for their seasonal collections. She has been involved in Pettah Interchange, Imago Mundi, the Alchemy Festival and the Eternal Internet Brotherhood. Her personal work is inspired by her interest in the cosmic universe, human consciousness, individual emotions, science fiction and nature. Which can be seen reflected in her ongoing digital story series called the Space Motel.
